When it comes to its features, it has a dedicated GPS system, one key return function, auto return, failsafe return and much more. Specifications-wise, this little guy works via 5.8 GHz frequency which enables it to fly up to 800 meters away from its transmitter without ever loosing connection. But still, keep in mind that if you have FPV turned on, you probably won’t make it further than 500 meters. Undoubtedly, that’s a great distance nonetheless, especially considering you get a crisp clear image on a 7 inch LED display. With all of the above in mind, there is no doubt that Upair One is a must-have if you are thinking of making drones your main hobby.

Before  I start splashing you down with numbers, you should know that Hover Camera is built specifically for selfies and nothing more than that. It cannot do any sort of exploration and the suggested maximum operating distance is 20 meters. More than enough for selfies but nowhere near any exploration capabilities. Furthermore, the flight time of this birdie goes from 8 to 10 minutes which is just below the standard. However, the package gets you 2 batteries which means you’ll have roughly 15 to 20 minutes of flight time with 1 pit stop.

There are two basic ways for computers to process the visual world. They can use cameras alone, or they can also use depth sensors, like lasers or radar, that precisely determine where objects are in space.

Envision a family portrait on the beach. Both the shore line and some cliffs are visible in the background. Imagine a travel Instagram selfie with all the contours of the landscape around you visible. Millions of travelers take selfies at popular tourist destinations, but far fewer capture their selfies from the air. With a drone though, clichéd photos become eye-opening works of art.

Despite its petite frame, the Spark comes with many of the same flight modes as its more expensive stablemates. It has Active Track, which allows you to automatically follow a subject and Helix which makes the drone perform a cinematic corkscrew around you as it ascends.

The Spark, a brand-new miniature by DJI has just been officially unveiled. Now, even though you still cannot buy it (UPDATE : you can order it now), it still deserves a special spot on this list just because it’s so damn awesome. It’s practically the size of a phablet and it fits into virtually all backpacks, handbags and even smallest purses. Is size the only thing the Spark excels at? Not by a long shot…

“It means that we can inspect them better, it’s safer — nobody needs to climb the tower to check that the cable is the way it should be, so it’s safer — it saves cost, and we can inspect more towers this way.

This is a neat and fun to use number that is cloaked in black, with a cool looking black and blue transmitter that mounts a smartphone on top for viewing. This drone has a lot of the same functions as the one we just reviewed, but the look is honestly quite a bit more modern.

Its weight exceeds the FAA’s small drone 55-pound weight limit, so it required special authorization for use. The agency says it can be used on a temporary basis while permanent infrastructure is rebuilt.

Probably the best thing about Altair AA108 is its brilliant miniature camera that can record in HD. We are talking about a wide angle sensor here (120-degrees FOV) which is perfect for taking shots and videos from high altitudes. Of course, it has no stabilization (hardware or software) so you will experience a bit of jello effect every now and then.

Roughly 2 kilometers of range (when you’re operating via its dedicated controller) and 15 minutes of flight time are more than a pleasant combination. You’re getting plenty of time for selfies and aerial shots and decent range for exploring that weird noise down the street at 4 AM… Do you agree this is one of the best starter drones?

The new DJI Mavic Air is so new, that our review unit is only shipping to us today. Launched and shipped at the of January 2018, this is a compact, folding drone that combines the best of the DJI Mavic Pro and the DJI Spark. Not only does it use the best features of the two previous drones, it also expands the capabilities with added obstacle avoidance sensors, upgraded camera and a form factor that sits in between the two during flight, but folds down to the smallest of the bunch for transportation.

Instead of investing in a $3k drone, PhoneDrone Ethos came up with a cool way to turn your smartphone into a drone, using the phone as the “brains.” It’s a less expensive solution because it basically uses all of the components you already have built into your smartphone, plus most drones use your smartphone as the remote control anyway. An accompanying app allows you to actually set the flight pattern for the drone as its own separate “mission.” Here’s the catch though—your phone can’t be in two places at once, acting as the drone and acting as the remote control to the drone. So this will work if you have another smartphone or tablet, but not so much if you don’t.

Priced at about $50 at the time of writing this article is a simpler cheaper copy of the Dobby Selfie Drone. Of course, at this price point you can expect the Elfie drone to lack the advanced features of the more expensive selfie drones, and it is true. The JJRC H37 or “Elfie” does not have GPS nor does it have a gimbal or an adjustable camera, it even uses brushed motors. All of this of course to cut down the cost.

Features are a huge plus for Parrot Bebop 2. Not only does it have GPS but sports helpful features such as altitude hold and failsafe/return to home. If you want more, you can always but FreeFlight Pro which gives you access to Flight Plan. This is a paid feature which enables you to create fully autonomous flight missions. Last but not least, if you opt for Parrot Bebop 2 Adventurer package you will not only get the drone but SkyController 2, specialized backpack and Cockpitglasses (AKA VR headset).

  1. Ever since smartphones become ubiquitous, the camera technology has been advancing in leaps and bounds. Quality, despite being packaged in such a small size, keeps getting better and better. And of course, being just one component in a smartphone, the price of camera is obviously very affordable to make it possible to be sold in the millions.
That’s everything you need to know for now. Make sure you’re up to speed with FAA regulations before you take to the skies. And consider a quadcopter as your first drone for the reasons mentioned above.
