Some reviewers report how this is not so easy to fly at the beginner level. Looking deeper into these gripes, it seems that impatience and a failure to read the instructions is the cause of most complaints.
The biggest con would have to be some of the recent firmware updates that tend to make it a tad unreliable. We know this from reading reviews, and we you do some quick research before making a decision to update the firmware.
K70C is a drone aimed at carried pretty much all action cameras available in the market. If you own, or are considering buying a GoPro, Xiami or SJCam, this is the best drone to carry one. Very powerful and robust it is the best and most affordable drone aimed at this specific cameras. It does come with its own 2M Hawkeye camera of decent quality, but if you want to get the most of this drone you should attach a GoPro to it! Very easy to fly, with a lot of carrying power, it is the low-cost drone for photography and videography. It has amazing LED lights in its arms for night flights and features Headless Mode, One-Key return and motorized gimbal. As previously mentioned the gimbal supports all types of action cameras. Flight time is 10 minutes and control range goes up to 200 meters.
is one of Walkera’s high-end quadcopters aimed at photography and videography. Scout X4 is somewhat of a “transformable” best drone 2017, being able to go from 4 motors to 8, becoming an octocopter. Auto-Pilot works through waypoints selected by pilot on Google Maps, to which Walkera Scout X4 will fly to alone. X4 features an excellent range of 1500 meters and 25 minutes of flight time. Scout X4 is also able to automatically return to the place of take-off as well as taking-off automatically too. It features Walkera’s G-3D gimbal (compatible with both the GoPro Hero 3 and 4 as well as iLook+). The complete package also includes an iLook+ camera with 720p resolution and 30 FPS. This is our DJI spark drone. We havent used it much at all, and now that we have the Mavic Air we won’t need this at all. Doesn’t come with memory card. Perfect condition, no crashes or anything. Four extra blades.
For those of you that are interested in making an even bigger commitment to a drone, here are a few intermediate level drones that we also love. These are fun, high quality, and still quite easy to use—though they’re all a bit more expensive than true beginners may be comfortable with:
Michael A. Prospero is the reviews editor at Laptop Mag and Tom’s Guide. When he’s not testing out the latest running watch, skiing or training for a marathon, he’s probably using the latest kitchen gadget.
One downside of the Dobby selfie drone is that the camera does not really have a gimbal. The only control you do have over the camera is by choosing one of the four preset positions, and this needs to be done before flying because you cannot control the camera. Also no gimbal means there is no physical stabilization built in so they depend on electronic image stabilization just like a typical smartphone, which is generally fine for what this drone is intended for.
is an amazing fit for your GoPro camera as it comes with a Gimbal aimed at that brand. It is a very unique design and a strong shell and an anti spark design to protect from crashes. It’s only Tier 3 because it doesn’t bring its own camera, you will have to purchase the GoPro separately. But the gimbal included in the package is very high-quality, a H3D-360 3 Axis Gimbal. It features Low Battery Warning, Waypoint Groundstation, TTR Hero App, Automatic Landing, One Key Home Return and Follow Me Mode. It has a control range of 700 meters and a flight time of 25 minutes.
And I can tell you from first-hand experience: you’ll want a drone that is forgiving of mistakes, because you’re going to crash. These safety measures are re-assuring when you’re just starting out—I wish I knew that prop guards existed when I started.
The camera can capture 720P video at 30 frames per second (with an SD card). This is one of the most popular training quadcopters on the market, and I like this particular package because it comes with an extra battery.
Experience the joy of flying with the winds at super speeds. This Wi-Fi enabled camera drone comes with live media and headless mode. You can enjoy the pleasures of cutting through the winds even from 100 meters away. You just have to charge the battery for 2 hours and have seamless fun with your kids. This is one of the best drones for beginners.
So, even though it can clock in at close to 35mph, it will seem a lot faster thanks to its massive size. The plastic used in the manufacturing process seems sturdy and not prone to breaking. However, due to its mass, I suspect falling from high altitudes will result in a complete havoc.
The Blade Nano is a beginner drone (for under $100) that will carry you into the veteran landscape. (Blade was also featured in our list of drone companies to watch, among a few of the other manufacturers in this article.)
The ZEROTECH Dobby is another smartphone-controlled drone, this pill-shaped drone with folding props is small enough to fit in your back pocket or carry in a bag. While using the app you will get a first person view from the Dobby’s camera. You can also use the app to post your drone selfies to Facebook or other social media quickly and easily.
The downside is that those goggles aren’t very sharp, coming in at a meager 320×240 resolution. The built-in camera doesn’t have a wide field of view, either, and it’s not particularly vivid in displaying your surroundings. It also doesn’t capture video. Using the FPV function cuts the Nano’s battery life closer to 5 minutes, too, if not less.
So, you have never operated a drone before and you are finally ready to make your dream come true. But, as soon as you started your “shopping” routine, you stumbled upon more than a few issues. The main one is certainly the type of drone you should look for.
WE ARE AN AUTHORIZED DJI DEALER AND HAVE BEEN FOR OVER 7 YEARS. DONT RISK IT BUYING OUT OF THE COUNTRY OR FROM A FLIPPER WHO IS NOT A DJI DEALER. Spark is a mini drone that features all of DJI’s signature technologies, allowing you to seize the moment whenever you feel inspired.
In our time with Dobby, Zerotech tried to show us everything it could do. This includes voice enabled control (call it’s name, it’ll take off). You can also set Dobby to take off from, and land onto your palm. It’s not exactly the throw launched promised (but as yet undelivered) by Lily, but moving your hand upwards will see the drone take flight. Be careful of your fingers though, as Dobby nipped a pinkie from our demonstrator at one point.
The main hook with the Wingsland S6 is you get a barebones package for just $299 and then buy add-ons to get the features to match more expensive drones. So while most models don’t include propeller guards out of the box, you can buy an add-on that gives you that for $15. Examples of other add-ons include: an LCD display board, propeller guards, a spotlight. and even a drone-mounted gun that shoots little foam balls.
Long story – To keep your drones from going away on their own after losing signal, GPS drones have specialized FailSafe options which ensure the drone’s safety. They are commonly referred to as return-home and land failsafe
One of the most important aspects of building a drone is the flight control system it operates on. While many drone makers are outsourcing this part, we have developed our own proprietary solution in conjunction with the Vision Recognition module – meaning that we can continue on improving and developing the core functions of PITTA.
If you desire to start your piloting career indoors, or just want to test the waters with as small of a drone as possible, the Hubsan X4 H111 is a solid offering. There are quite a few nano drones on the market, most all offering up a similar experience, this Hubsan unit is the one on my desk.
The price is significantly higher than the standalone drone, but the gimbal itself is amazing and will serve as a great aerial photo platform, especially if you have a top-quality action camera. For those of you who don’t know what a gimbal is, please refer to the FAQ section above. Furthermore, features aren’t to be taken for granted either. 3DR Solo is a true smart drone in every sense of that word and doesn’t just possess GPS but Follow Me, Waypoints and plenty other features that ensure its competitiveness on the market.
So maybe this is not for the “average” consumer but more likely for a less demanding pro which can use this great little quadcopter to get pro level videos without spending too much on its bigger brother the DJI Phantom 4.
Like I already said above, Syma X5C is a easy to fly drone that perfectly fits your needs if you’re a first-time flyer. Not only is it made out of decent quality plastic (can’t expect premium build quality for this price) but it also sports a pretty decent 2.0MP camera (If the camera is an important factor to you, check out our list of best camera drones) that can provide you with decent quality images… as long as you don’t expect any masterpieces.
